2008-2009 RATES

Return To Home Page

**On our pack trips, the first date listed below is the date we will leave the ranch, drive to the trailhead, and pack into our high country camp. You need to plan on being at our ranch house in the valley at 8:00 AM that morning. Please do not arrive early and please do not arrive the day before as we are not able to accommodate you.
**We strongly recommend that you do get to the local area by the afternoon of the day before your hunt. Once you arrive, please do call us and let us know you are in the area! There are several restaurants and local motels in Sauguache and Hot Mineral Springs where you can stay the night before we pack-in, and then you will only have a short 20 minute drive to make the morning your hunt starts. Another option is to stay in Salida (45 minute drive) where you will find many franchised hotels and a better variety of restrurants, as well as a Super Wal-Mart for any needed supplies.
**The exception is 4th rifle season when we would like you to be at our place by 3PM on November 11 which is the day before the season opens and the hunt starts. Thank you.

ARCHERY ELK HUNTS: $2750 per person, fully guided
We will have four separate guided archery hunts for elk and deer in 2008. These hunts will be conducted from our two high country pack-in tent camps. Camps are limited to four hunters maximum with a 2X1 hunter to guide ratio. All hunts will be a seven day trip with five full days of hunting. These hunts are full service with a wrangler in camp to help with meals, packing of game, keeping the camp clean and orderly etc. These are first class hunts in a high mountain basin where we usually see elk on a daily basis. Hunting the mid to late part of the elk season will give us the best opportunity to work bulls as they will be in the rut and moving with groups of cows. We will hunt spot and stalk, as well as setting up early and late in the day on wallows. We will use bugles and cow calls to bring elk in close. Historically we have had close to 100% shot opportunity on these hunts. Bull elk licenses are available over the counter and deer licenses are by draw only.
Hunt dates are as follows:
Hunt #1: September 12.....Pack out: September 18
Hunt #2: September 13.....Pack out: September 19
Hunt #3: September 20.....Pack out: September 26
Hunt #4: September 21.... Pack out: September 27

RIFLE ELK HUNTS: $2950 per person, fully guided
For 2008 we will offer two fully guided camps for rifle hunts. You can hunt mule deer (deer licenses by draw only) during 2nd or 3rd season at no additional charge. Camp size is limited to four hunters maximum and we have a 2X1 guide to hunter ratio with a wrangler in camp to help with meals, packing of game, keeping the camp clean and orderly etc. These are first class hunts in a high mountain basin where we usually see elk on a daily basis. All trips are seven days in length and include five full days of hunting with pack days on either end. Our pack trip takes 3-4 hours so if we pack in during the season we will usually be in camp by noon giving you an additional 1/2 day of hunting, and of course we just might spot some animals on the ride up the hill! 1st season is elk only by draw, 2nd and 3rd season have over the counter bull licenses with cow elk and deer by draw, and 4th season is draw only for elk. Usually for 4th rifle season we expect to hunt from the ranch so a pack trip is not necessary or expected.

Hunt #5: October 10........Pack out: October 16    (1st season)
Hunt #6: October 17........Pack out: October 23    (2nd season)

LATE SEASON COW ELK HUNTS: $1500 per person, fully guided
We will again offer our late season cow hunts from the ranch in the San Luis Valley. In 2007 these hunts were 100% successful. Hunters will stay in our comfortable log cabin and be served meals in the main ranch house down in the valley. This is a fun hunt where elk are spotted from the truck then a stalk is made to get close enough for a clean shot. Sometimes we can see them right from the house or cabin. Licenses are by draw only. Please plan on arriving here on Sunday afternoon the day before your hunt begins.
Hunt dates are as follows:
Hunt #11: December 1-5
Hunt #12: December 8-12
Hunt #13: December 15-19

ANTELOPE HUNTS: $1500 per person, fully guided, (5 days of hunting)
Archery antelope hunts take place during late August and September while the rifle season begins in early October. For archery hunts we will primarily hunt from blinds which I construct along fence lines where the antelope naturally cross during the day as they move between the alfalfa fields. Rifle hunts involve more spot and stalk tactics. Preference points are necessary to draw licenses, but if you contact us early in the year we may be able to secure a guaranteed land owner sponsored license for you. All hunts are fully guided and include five days of hunting. After you secure your license we will set dates for your hunt.

SELF GUIDED HUNTS: $1250 per person, (Cabin or 4WD Camp)
All self guided hunts are $1250 per person with a four person minimum necessary to secure a camp or the cabin. You need only bring your personal gear and food. There is a fee of $250 for packing out of game to the trailhead.
